Watt's Up? March 2024 Edition

Watt's Up? March 2024 Edition

This update is a little late, but here is some of Watt I was up to in March! To my Christian readers, I hope you had a blessed Easter.

READING: I’m still reading my Bible daily as part of a chronological Bible-in-a-year plan. I haven’t done much reading otherwise besides for school.

LISTENING: Dad finished reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen to me, and we started Lemons on Friday: Trusting God Through My Greatest Heartbreak by Mattie Jackson Selecman. On Libby, I listened to James Herriot's Treasury for Children: Warm and Joyful Tales by the Author of All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot.

VOLUNTEERING: I volunteered as a moderator for the Diamonds Conference, a free, online conference for chronically ill Christians. I facilitated discussions in a live YouTube chat, typed notes from the speakers, and watched for inappropriate comments. It was a busy but fun three days, and I was promoted to sponsorship coordinator for the next conference.

MAKING: I used kite paper to fold flowers and a butterfly for the windows on our back doors. I have also been folding a lot of suncatchers to give away. I finished the counted cross-stitch picture of dandelions, but I haven’t had a chance to frame it yet. I’ll share a picture when I do.

EXPLORING: Mom, Dad, Alex, Kathryn, Kathryn's younger brother, and I toured the Bayernhof Museum in Pittsburgh. It's a 19,000 square foot house full of amazing views of Pittsburgh, self-playing musical instruments, secret passageways, a rooftop observatory, an artificial cave, an indoor swimming pool, and more. My mouth fell open multiple times as I exclaimed, "what?!" under my breath. There are lots of secrets and surprises at this mansion that has been turned into a museum. Our tour guide was great and told lots of stories.

PLANNING: I’m planning to get a bunny! I kept bunnies before I became ill, but when I became too sick to take care of them or play with them, we had to give them away. I’m excited for the plan to have a hoppy little friend again!

EXERCISING: The Spring100, a challenge to walk and or run 100 intentional miles during the duration of spring, started on April 19th, and I have been walking and running a lot! Generally, my mom and I have been walking 2+ miles every day. I also run 3x a week, and on the days I run, I usually still walk with Mom. That means that some days I have been running/walking 5+ miles outside. Registration for the Spring100 is free and is open until April 8th, so there is still time to join. I’ll also be running a 5K on April 20th.

WORKING: I spent several hours cleaning up leaves and dead plant material this month. Our neighbors’ have a pin oak that hasn’t finished dropping its leaves yet, but most of the leaf clearing is finished. I enjoy yard work and being outside, and I’m looking forward to trimming the hedges next.

Watt have you been up to this month?

The flowers you made from kite paper are so pretty, Lauren! I enjoyed your post!

You’re welcome, Ben! I look forward to the next time we can explore Pittsburgh together.

I agree with Mrs. Dutko. Thank you for diligently finding and presenting ways to live ordinary life well in such a place as Pittsburgh where some reports would have it that there is nothing to do.

Hi, Mrs. Dutko,

You can thank my oldest brother and sister-in-law because we had never heard of the Bayernhof Museum until they told us about it!

We buy our kite paper on Amazon. Here’s the link:
