Watt's Up? September Edition

Watt's Up? September Edition

Happy autumn, friends! Here's a peak of Watt I've been up to in September!

READING: Dad and I finished reading The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy, and we are now over 2/3rds of the way through The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien! I finished reading Strong Like Water by Aundi Kolber, and I read The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain for reading club. Currently, I am reading Help for the Hungry Soul by Kristen Wetherell, Try Softer by Aundi Kolber, and Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund

WATCHING: I belong to Sarah Jackson's RESTORE and have been watching her videos where she shares practices for rewiring the brain.

My parents and I also watched a drone light show that was done to celebrate our township's 250th anniversary. It was really neat! Below are some pictures. We watched from a nearby parking lot so that we wouldn't have to ride a shuttle to the event.

LISTENING: I've been listening to my audio Bible in the mornings while I walk. I started out by reading a paperback copy of The Prince and the Pauper, but I finished by listening to it for free on LibriVox while working around the house. I've also been listening to music from Michael Card.

MAKING: I made a lot of cards and suncatchers this month, and I also pressed wildflowers flowers and leaves to use for crafts. Before I pressed the flowers, I arranged them and took a photo of them with Lady, a childhood stuffed animal. I enjoyed baking, too! I made oatmeal bars with chocolate chips and raisins, buckwheat pancakes, and muffins, and I cooked dinner several times.

EATING: I've been eating the foods listed above, and my mom has also made buckwheat bread, using the same recipe as for the pancakes. It's delicious, especially as toast with jelly. We’ve also been eating sprouts that my mom has grown.

ENJOYING: A friend who is a photographer sent me several of her prints of butterflies and one of a bluebird, and I enjoy looking at them. Mom and I also went paddle-boating at Twin Lakes and had fun! We were able to talk to my maternal grandma on the phone while on the lake, and we ate chocolate. We also hosted hymn sing again this month!

FEELING: I weaned off of some more Hydrocortisone this month. I had some withdrawal, but it was nothing terrible. I just needed more naps for a while. I also saw my ophthalmologist, and she gave me a good report and is happy with my current glasses.

Sadly, Harbin, my betta fish, died this month. I’m not sure what went wrong and felt pretty sad, but I enjoyed him for the almost three months that he kept me company on my desk.

LOVING: Our two monarch caterpillars went into their chrysalises this month and became butterflies! We loved watching them fly up into the sky when we released them. We also had a small fire one evening, which was relaxing. Since the weather has become cooler, we had to bring our outdoor plants inside. I put some of them in my room, and I love how they look!

EXERCISING: I’ve cut running back to mostly once per week, but otherwise, I’ve been walking two miles almost daily. One day Mom and I saw a rainbow while we were walking, which was pretty! On September 30th, I ran a virtual 5K through our neighborhood to support Lawndale Christian Fitness Center and beat my previous PR by about a minute. Ben ran the race in person, so now I have run races with both of my brothers this year!

BUYING: Mom and I went to some yard sales this month, and I bought The Collected Works of C.S. Lewis and The Inspirational Writings of C.S. Lewis for 10 cents each! Combined the two volumes house seven books! That’s the best book deal I’ve found in ages, possibly ever! At the same sale, I also got a copy of The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman for 10 cents. At other yard sales, I bought some headbands, cute pots that look like a fox and a toucan, an exercise mat, and some decorations for my room. I think I will propagate an African violet in the toucan pot. I also got started on some Christmas shopping.
